Inspiration
Audrey Hepburn’s grace and charm in her movies “Roman Holiday” and “Sabrina" captivated me as a child. This led to my interest in her career and life which included her humanitarian work as a Goodwill Ambassador with UNICEF. As a naïve and somewhat pretentious teenager, I too wanted a part of this, and started looking for international opportunities where I could experience the physical nature of field work while making a small contribution to healthcare somewhere.
I have also always been a interested in MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières, translating to Doctors Without Borders), an international organization, providing humanitarian medical care. The organization is known for its medical missions to provide assistance to those affected by conflicts and epidemics, unable to receive healthcare. I did not think I was quite capable of executing a medical mission similar to MSF, I thought my plan was acheiveable.
