About My Project

The first aspect of my project involved preventive care for villagers in the rural town, Karaikudi. Karaikudi is located in Tamil Nadu, India and is one of the most underdeveloped towns in the world. My efforts included demonstrating and donating blood glucose monitors, thermometers, heigh and weight scales, and blood pressure monitors. In demonstrating the use of the equipment, I was able to collect the vitals of over sixty villagers who visited the local clinic that day. Additionally, I created patient health monitoring forms, intending for the village patients to present what I had recorded to their local doctor.

Here I am taking the glucose reading of an elderly Tamil woman.

The second aspect of my project involved emergency medicine, and I donated and demonstrated the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to the clinic and clinic staff. After learning how to use an AED at my school, I realized how important it is to know how to deal with a sudden cardiac arrest in the event that an ambulance can not arrive immediately. Predicting this might be an issue in Karaikudi, I brought the machine, it's corresponding pads, as well as test pads.
